Stanley Hot Springs Project
Clearwater-NezPerce N F, Stanley Hot Springs: We completed brushing and logging out Rock Creek Trail from the junction of Boulder Creek Trail to the hot-springs on June 29th. We cut overhead brush on Boulder Creek
Trail so riders did not have to duck brush. We did some cleaning out drainage ditches and installed one new water bar to hopefully dry up some real muddy areas. The creek crossing was high and only two riders were willing to take their stock across, but our pack animals crossed with all the tools. We cut several trees out with the crosscut saw. The rest tied up and walked the tree across the creek to get to the work area.
Idaho Fish & Game Craig Mountain WMA: Parking Area hitchrail Project June 7th
The new hitchrail is located at the parking area that was installed at the upper end of Stagecoach Road a few years back. There is a stock access gate near the parking area with many miles to explore on roads closed to motorized users. We requested some muscle and without using equipment to lift the hitchrail, installed it by hand. A power augur was rented to dig the holes. A few rocks had to be removed with rock bars and posthole diggers. Other than the rocks, everything went great. The posted were cemented in so this hitchrail should be good for many years.
Autry Campground on WDFW Property was the location for this weekend’s outing. On the drive up Cougar Creek, we saw a bear in the road. Most of us showed up Friday and took a short enjoyable ride. Saturday, three more members joined us for a planned longer ride to enjoy the area. The fires from last year really was hard on some of the historical structures. We rode by where the school house was and only a pile of brick to mark the place was left. Then we headed down to check out to where the saw mill was. Again, only remnants of evidence that a saw mill once stood there. Saturday night, we had great potluck and enjoyed telling stories.
